At Light Designer Incorporated, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy outlines the types of personal information we collect, how we use and protect that information, and your rights regarding your personal data. By using our website, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
We may collect personal information from you when you visit our website, interact with our services, or communicate with us. The types of information we may collect include:
1.1. Personal Identification Information: This includes your name, email address, phone number, and any other information you provide to us voluntarily.
1.2. Log Data: When you visit our website, our servers automatically record certain information, such as your IP address, browser type, referring/exit pages, and other usage details. This information helps us analyze trends, administer the site, and improve our services.
1.3. Cookies and Similar Technologies: We may use cookies and similar technologies to collect information about your browsing activities. These technologies help us enhance your experience, analyze usage patterns, and personalize content and advertising. You can control the use of cookies through your browser settings.
1.4. Advertising and Visitor Identifiers: We assign your browser a randomly generated first-party identifier stored in a cookie and in your browser's local storage. We also record advertising parameters present in the link you arrived through — including campaign identifiers and the Facebook click identifier (fbclid), along with Meta's own _fbp and _fbc cookies where present — as well as the page you landed on and the website that referred you. These identifiers let us understand which advertisement or referral brought you to us, even if you return days or weeks later, and let us measure whether our advertising is effective. They are not used to identify you by name and are retained for up to 180 days for this purpose.
We may use your personal information for the following purposes:
2.1. To Provide and Improve Our Services: We use your information to deliver the services you request, respond to your inquiries, and improve our website's functionality and performance.
2.2. To Personalize Your Experience: We may use your information to tailor our services and content to your preferences, providing you with a more personalized experience.
2.3. To Communicate with You: We may use your contact information to send you important updates, newsletters, marketing materials, and other communications that may be of interest to you. You can opt out of receiving these communications at any time.
2.4. To Protect Our Rights: We may use your information to protect the rights, property, or safety of Light Designer Incorporated, our users, or others, as required or permitted by law.
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties without your consent, except as described in this Privacy Policy. However, we may share your information in the following circumstances:
3.1. Service Providers: We may engage third-party service providers to perform certain functions on our behalf, such as website hosting, data analysis, and customer support. These service providers have access to your personal information but are obligated to maintain its confidentiality and use it solely for the purpose of providing services to us.
3.2. Legal Requirements: We may disclose your personal information if required to do so by law or if we believe that such action is necessary to comply with legal obligations, protect our rights, or respond to a court order, subpoena, or legal process.
3.3. Advertising Platforms: We share limited information with advertising platforms — principally Meta Platforms, Inc. (Facebook and Instagram) — as described in Section 4 below.
We advertise on Meta's platforms (Facebook and Instagram) to reach homeowners interested in lighting services and professional installers interested in our software. To make that advertising accurate and accountable, we do the following:
4.1. Conversion Measurement: When you complete a meaningful action — such as submitting a design request, signing up as an installer, or purchasing a membership — we send a record of that event to Meta through its Conversions API so we can measure which advertisements actually work. Any contact details included in these events (such as your email address or phone number) are irreversibly hashed using SHA-256 before transmission. We do not send Meta your plain-text contact information, and we do not send the contents of your designs, photographs, or quotes.
4.2. Custom and Similar Audiences: We may create "custom audiences" on advertising platforms so that we can show relevant advertisements to people who have already interacted with us — for example, reminding a homeowner to finish a design they started, or telling an installer about a membership they viewed. These audiences are built in two ways: from activity on our own website associated with the identifiers described in Section 1.4, and from lists of hashed contact details drawn from our own records. Where a list is used, the contact details are hashed before they are uploaded, and the platform is permitted to use them only to match against its existing users for our campaigns — never to build its own marketing database about you.
4.3. Similar ("Lookalike") Audiences: We may ask an advertising platform to find additional people who resemble our existing customers, based on an audience described above. This process produces a new audience of people we have no prior relationship with; it does not disclose your individual information to those people or to other advertisers.
4.4. Suppression: We also use these audiences in reverse — to exclude people from advertisements that are not relevant to them. For example, existing members are excluded from recruitment advertising.
4.5. What We Never Do: We do not sell your personal information to advertisers. We do not upload your house photographs, generated designs, quotes, or the contents of your communications with us to any advertising platform. We do not target advertising on the basis of sensitive categories.
4.6. Your Choices: You may opt out of this advertising at any time. You can limit or block cookies through your browser settings; adjust your advertising preferences directly with Meta at facebook.com/adpreferences, including the "Advertisers who uploaded a list with your info" controls; use the industry opt-out tools at optout.aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu; or contact us using the details in Section 10 to request that we remove you from our advertising audiences. Opting out will not affect your ability to use our services.
4.7. Homeowner and Installer Advertising: Our services are used both by homeowners seeking lighting installations and by lighting professionals evaluating our software, and some people are both. Where our records suggest you may belong to either group, you may see advertising intended for either audience. You can opt out as described in Section 4.6.
We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. However, no transmission over the internet or electronic storage method is completely secure. Therefore, while we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
You have certain rights regarding your personal information:
6.1. Access and Correction: You have the right to access and correct any personal information we hold about you. You may update or correct your information by contacting us directly.
6.2. Opt-Out: You have the right to opt out of receiving marketing communications from us, and to opt out of the advertising audiences described in Section 4. You can do so by following the instructions provided in the communication, using the controls in Section 4.6, or by contacting us directly.
6.3. Data Retention: We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.
